Homemade Meatball Recipe

Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 pound ground pork
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup milk (optional, for extra moistness)

For the sauce:
- 2 cups marinara sauce
- 1/2 cup beef or chicken broth
- 1/4 cup red wine (optional)
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon sugar (optional, to balance acidity)
- Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:
1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, garlic, onion, egg, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Optionally, add the milk to keep the meatballs moist. Mix everything together until well combined, but avoid overmixing to prevent toughness.

2. Shape the mixture into meatballs of your desired size. You can make them small for appetizers or larger for main dishes. Place the meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

3. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the meatballs for about 20 minutes or until they are browned and cooked through.

4. While the meatballs are baking, prepare the sauce. In a large saucepan, combine the marinara sauce, broth, red wine, tomato paste, and sugar. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat.

5. Once the meatballs are done baking, carefully transfer them to the simmering sauce. Gently stir to coat the meatballs with the sauce. Reduce the heat to low and let the meatballs simmer in the sauce for about 15-20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.

6. Serve the meatballs with sauce over cooked pasta, or as a filling for meatball sandwiches. Garnish with additional grated Parmesan cheese and fresh parsley, if desired.
